CPD Failure to Properly Manage Manpower in 016 Has Aldermen Seeing Red

The Second City Cop news outlet first posted that the entire afternoon tact team in 016 was going to be detailed to 011 for the weekend of November 1st. That turned-out to be no rumor, this actually became a reality.

Second City Cop post from 01 Nov 2019 at 12:01AM on the topic of 016 tact units rumored to be getting sent to 011 for the weekend

This reality left 016 in a jam that would have left most District Commanders at the mercy of the mayor and BIA. Second City Cop had an eye on Nadig News, the media company that has covered the northwest side for decades. Here's what SCC found out:

"On Nov. 1 and 2, eight 16th District tactical officers and a sergeant were sent to work in the 11th (Harrison) District from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

On Friday night, the 16th District was able to bring in four tactical officers who were paid overtime to work on their day off, but on Saturday evening there reportedly were no tactical officers working in the district."

If you guessed that the aldermen in each of the wards within 016 saw red, you'd be correct.

Chicago-One reached out to CPD News Affairs with a simple question: "is the department investigating at all?" While Chicago-One waits for that response, Brian Nadig has some facts worth being seen.

1. On Nov. 1 and 2, eight 16th District tactical officers and a sergeant were sent to work in the 11th (Harrison) District from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

2. On Friday night, the 16th District was able to bring in four tactical officers who were paid overtime to work on their day off, but on Saturday evening there reportedly were no tactical officers working in the district.

3. In addition, there are reports that due to a shortage of officers on the 16th District’s night team, the day teams were depleted so that the district could send an eight-member team to the 11th District.

Hello, Eddie Johnson? Mayor Lightfoot? If you wouldn't allow this kind of stunt in 014 where you live, why is this acceptable in 016? Question for the 016 Commander: Did you entertain the possibility of having your depleted tact team temporarily covered by a suitable citywide tact team detail in 016? Did you think maybe it was a good idea to tell 011 to find their own coverage? was it worth a possible demotion to let this play out? Was it worth risking the safety and well-being of the residents served by your district? What were you thinking?

Update - 6:38PM

Sgt. Rocco Alioto at News Affairs has made the following statement:

"It is customary for personnel from one district to support another district. This is not a regular occurrence but can and will be used when needed. We are all one Chicago Police Department."
